About Me and "Good Dog" Training

I specialize in teaching companion dogs to navigate life with humans in today's world; training dogs for television commercials and film, trick training, and competing across a wide range of AKC performance and companion events. I approach my work with genuine enthusiasm—like a kid with a dog—always ready for the next adventure and eager to discover new activities with my canine partners.

"Good Dog" Training was officially founded in 1983. Dogs have fascinated me throughout my life, particularly their language and communication. They have been my greatest teachers as I developed my skills as a trainer and deepened my understanding of them as a species. The more I listen to them, the more I understand what it truly means to be a dog in today's world.

My professional background includes three years as a Kennel Master, two years as an Animal Control Officer, nearly twelve years as a veterinary assistant, technician, and surgery specialist, 2 years teaching pre-vet med at a college in Colorado, and two years working with the wolf pack at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. I earned my degree in Animal Science and Genetics and have consistently lived with one or multiple dogs of my own. Throughout my career, I have bred, trained, and competed in numerous performance events, titling dogs in AKC Obedience, Rally, Lure Coursing, Fast Cats, Earth Dog, Barn Hunt, Upland Hunting, Trick Dog, and Conformation. I am committed to teaching only the sports I have personally competed in and titled to those looking for competition dog training.

As an education-based trainer, I dedicate equal time to teaching people about their dogs and canine behavior as I do to teaching social skills, good behaviour and obedience commands. I believe it's essential for owners to understand their individual dog and how dogs function, enabling them to build the relationship they desire. By clarifying common misconceptions and addressing the "why" behind a dog's responses, I help you and your partner work as a unified team. Everything in dog training starts and ends with the relationship you build.
