Teaching companion dogs the ins and outs of life with humans in today's world; training dogs for use in television commercials and film, trick training, training and competing in a wide range of AKC performance and companion events.
I'm a kid with a dog when it comes to my interaction with them, and like them, always up for an adventure with my best partner, coming up with new things to do together.
"Good Dog" Training was officially founded in 1983. Everything about dogs has always fascinated me, most especially their language. They have been my best teachers as I developed my skills as a trainer and my understanding of them as a species. And the more I listen to them, the more I understand "dog" and what it is to be a dog in today's world.
I worked as a Kennel Master for 3 years, as an Animal Control Officer for 2, as a veterinarian assistant and technician and as a surgery technician specialist for the better part of 12 years - all of which also helped me learn more about dogs and about the dog/human relationship.
I worked at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo tending to the zoo's wolf pack for 2 years, and in college majored in Animal Science and Genetics.
All the while alternating between living with a dog of my own and multiple dogs at a time of my own.
I have bred, trained and competed in performance events; titling dogs in AKC Obedience, Rally, Lure Coursing, Fast Cats, Earth Dog, Barn Hunt, Upland Hunting, Trick Dog and Conformation, I have titled multiple dogs in every sport I teach and do not attempt to teach sports I have not done and titled in myself.
I am an educationally based trainer and spend as much time teaching people about their dogs and dogs in general where cause and effect behaviour affects all outcomes as I do teaching what I refer to as Trade Skills - aka Obedience commands.
I believe it is important for people to have an understanding of the dog in front of them as well as how dogs' function so that they can build the type of relationship they hope for and understanding some of the "whys" of a dog's responses and reactions.
Everything starts and ends with the relationship you have with your dog, dispelling myths and clearing up misunderstandings is a large part of my training so that you and your partner are both on the same page.
I am happy to address any questions you have about me, my training, my philosophy, all you need do is ask.
